Weekly Snippet

Last Week…

The Market was still ‘mixing’ and mostly pretty boring…

So to liven things up, here’s a little Index Lesson:

  • ‘The Dow’ or Dow Jones Industrial Average, is composed of just 30 US (really global) companies.
  • ‘The S&P’ or Standard & Poor’s 500, is composed of 500 of the largest US companies.
  • Our US Large Growth benchmark also holds about 400 companies, but excludes large companies that are less expensive—called ‘Value’ stocks.

This is interesting because, of the three indexes, Large Growth is the only one that moved up last week (almost 1.0%) and is ahead of the S&P more than 3.5% YTD. While the DOW is off 1.22% YTD.

  • Large Value dropped another point and is now nearly 3% off YTD.
  • US Stocks continued last week’s and this year’s trend:
    • Growth moved up further, Value fell more, except…
    • Small Value managed a tiny gain of .03%, but remains negative YTD.

Foreign Stocks all gave up .25% to 1.7%

  • All Foreign Equities except Emerging Markets held thin increases YTD.

Fixed Income mostly gathered piddling gains except Foreign and Emerging Market Bonds. And, Intermediate Term US Corporate Bonds showed 0.0% movement.

  • Foreign Bonds lost half its YTD gains settling just above 1%, but is the only fixed income class still in the black this year.

Have a great weekend!
