Last Week…

Today we’d like to discuss a little more about the performance of the asset classes we follow.

The winners for this week are:

  • Large Growth up 4.01% from the week before—up 15.69% YTD. This is nearly one third of this year’s total return that posted in just one week!
  • Small Growth up 7.4% over the week before—up 15.81% YTD. This is just short of ½ of this year’s total return again, that posted in just one week!
  • Emerging Markets take the cake as the big winner so far this year—up a whopping 30.33% YTD!
  • Growth continues to outpace value this year whereas the opposite was true in 2016. This shift demonstrates again the argument for diversification across asset classes in your portfolio! Look at it this way:
    • Growth is doubling Value this year in all sizes from Small to Large caps.
    • Last year Large Value nearly tripled Large Growth at 16.+%
    • Mid and Small Value doubled their Growth counterparts at 20.+% and 27.+% respectively.

This dramatic rotation delivers huge buying discounts and profit taking outcomes when the time comes for rebalancing your accounts!

The losers last week were:

  • REITS down .44% for the week, but overall still up 6.55% YTD
  • Commodities, on the other hand, are down 1.98% for the week and down 3.46% YTD

The Bond market continues to be positive YTD although last week it did pull back slightly. Not surprising since when equities go up bonds typically go down or stay flat.

Have a great week!
